Ravings, rantings, and gibberish.
Written by Drew
.$joomblog_header->blog_title.
What is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
16. Best Karaoke Songs; and possibly best iTunes list ever!
Friday, 12 January 2007

Alright, so we've all been out drinking. Most of us have probably done the cheap drink night special where Karaoke songs are played at disturbing levels; (to those who aren't buzzed). Karaoke songs can make or break a night. But GREAT karaoke songs; whether they are sung horribly or angelically, make a night everytime. Here's my list of can't go wrong songs. And the question arises; Could this also be the greatest iTunes songlist of all-time? Just think of the Hallmark memories!

15. Take it on the Run By REO Speedwagon

14. Yellow Submarine By The Beatles

13. Rainy Day Woman #12 & 35 By Bob Dylan

12. I Will Survive By Gloria Naylor

11. Sweet Home Alabama By Lynyrd Skynyrd

10. Friends In Low Places By (I have no idea, it's country; but I know the song by heart!)

9. Living on a Prayer By Bon Jovi ( I Hate Bon Jovi, but again, memorized)

8. Rocket Man ( I Think Its going to be a Long long Time) By Elton John

7. Where Everybody Knows Your Name By Gary Portnoy

6. Brown Eyed Girl By Van Morrison

5. We Didn't Start the Fire By Billy Joel

4. Folsom Prison Blues By Johnny Cash

3. Don't Stop Believeing By Journey

2. American Pie By Don McLean

1. Piano Man By Billy Joel

Can't stand that I left you and your buddies favorite 'let's get wasted and sing themesong?' Let me know what it is? I would hate to leave any out because of bad recall and drink specials!!

17. Hit me Harder Tigger!
Tuesday, 09 January 2007

Disney has its hands full again. Nevermind all the subliminal sexual innduendos that go into such films as Lion King. This time the harrassment came straight from a furried paw, hand, glove thingy. A few days ago, someone got Tiger-slapped by T-I-double Guh-ER at Disneyland or World, whatever. Anyways, the whole thing was caught on tape.
So the whole world is disgusted and dismayed at this family-friendly company; eroding moral values and eliciting violence by allowing such a low-life to work in a family-themed park wearing a orange fur suit and disporportinate head. It was all over the news with in a couple of days. the father and son sitting side by side with the lawyer on all the morning talk shows. "Good Morning from Today, Tigger gets rabunctous and not so playfully pats tween across face." Million dollar smile, "Let's go to Al." (None of that were real qoutes by the way).
So sad, right?
What's sad is that the family will more than likely take an undisclosed settlement out of court, maybe even in the millions, from Disney for a very weak and pathetic sucker punch from Tigger. Sure, Tigger shouldn't have been so upset about his stripes, but did you watch the interviews with the family? After the inicident, which happened mid-morning I believe, the kid woke up the FOLLOWING morning with 'neck-pain'. Then as the father stated, "I didn't take any chances, and we rushed him to the hospitol. P-L-double E-SE. Even more classic was the TEENAGER's response to the anchor's question of pain. "Well I'm feeling pretty good now because I'm on medicine."
For Christ's sake. The neck pain suddenly appeared the following morning without any indications of problems before hand? Is it possible that he woke up with a stiff neck from sleeping on a hotel bed? Besides the hit was Weak. This kid has never been in a pillow fight before? Ever played sports, ever left his room? 1 in 4 women get raped and we're covering Tigger like it's the greatest atrocity to mankind.
These people better bask in there 15 minutes of fame and then get the hell out of doge. Otherwise, I just may have to show up at their front door with a Tigger suit on.

18. Toyota Tackles Drunk Driving
Wednesday, 03 January 2007

Toyota has designed a new smart car that can detect a drunk driver. If you have seen the movie '40 Year Old Virgin', you are familiar with the American safety guard of keeping Drunk Drivers off the road. You also saw ways to get around it. Of course in reality, many repeat offenders have their liscences revoked, or are put on home arrest; making it very difficult to drive anywhere without a driver, including to work. But Toyota has designed a car that actually detects intoxication without a breathalizer.
The car can detect drunk drivers in three seperate ways. There are sweat censors in the steering wheel which can detect the saturation level of acohal through contact with the skin. The steering wheel also moniters abnormal turning, so if the driver is weaving the car will come to a gradual stop and shut off. Thirdly, a special camera can be used to moniter the driver's pupils are dilated or are not in focus.
Crazy huh? The question remains, is this a good idea? The cars will first be launched overseas before they get any kind of chance to be shipped and or produced in the U.S. But are we talking about greater government restrictions and infringement on personal rights, or the ambition to do something for the greater good?
Of course, the hardest question here, is what one's perception is of what the greater good is. Regardless, the Toyota product isn't really about stopping Drunk Drivers in the act, it is about DETERRING people from choosing to drink and drive in the first place. It is all about deterrence.
I have a system for deterring Drunk Driving, I would bet that it would work a lot better and much more efficently than sweat censored steering wheels. The next time a cop pulls over a Drunk, let him fire off a round between through the back fo the head; execution style. Don't allow the family to bury the body; allow it to sit on the side of the street. Don't bar the media from covering it, then state that all Police Departments across the nation have the right to exact this type of punishment at their digression. Grotesque? Sure. Would it hinder Drunk Driving? You bet. Of course, we would have to be talking about a totalitarian state; one where the government has an authoritative power. And that couldn't happen in the U.S. of A. No way right?
And the difference between the government controlling your ability to drive by installing cameras and sweat censors in your car, and planting a bullet in one person's brain? Aren't we talking about a violation of rights in both cases? Yes; but you say the difference is obvious; when you factor in the death of that one Drunk driver. But what is for the greater good? The restriction and regulation of personal rights of the Red White and Blue Big Brother impeding on your every day life, of thousands and thousands of Americans who are innocent until there car shuts down of driving drunk; or the one guilty fella who got shot and hence saved us from having cameras monitor our pupils focusing capabilities.

19. The Greatest Game Ever Played?
Tuesday, 02 January 2007

Capping another football season was drama on top of drama. The NFL's playoff branches are set. Broncos couldn't get it done when they held thier own destiny in their hands. But another Bronco nation is still in a frenzy. Many sports fans believe that college athletics greatly outweigh professional sports. Both in enjoyment and competition. The perfect epitome of college sports and college football, was the Fiesta bowl this year.
The Boise State Broncos, who play on a Blue colored turf field, marched to a 12-0 regular season record. A mid-major school, the BCS commitee gave the Broncos a chance to shock the world with a match-up against the Oklahoma Sooners. One of the most storied and legendary college football franchices that bleeds tradition. If you got the chance to watch the game, it will be one you'll remember for years. If you didn't get a chance to catch it, and if you're not even a football fan. Today's technology allows you to catch the game again, as it will more than likely rebroadcasted over the next few days. This is why sports fans spend hours watching games, for the diamond in the rough; the perfect game.
Before this year's fiesta bowl, the greatest game I had ever personally seen in my young tenure was last year's Rose Bowl between USC and Texas. But Boise State and Oklahoma may just have been the greatest game ever played. From the 4th and 18 hook and ladder conversion for a touchdown, to the statue of liberty trickery to win it, I am officially dubbing the fiesta bowl the best college football game ever played. And as far as sports go, you don;t get any better than college football.
Boise State's run was a fairy tale season, and it even had a surreal ending. After the game, Boise State's RB, Ian Johnson, proposed to his girlfriend, the head cheerleader. Reek of lameness and of cliche television on NBC? Yes, but really when does that storyline ever really come to frution in real life? She said yes by the way.
The question now is, what of the BCS? Boise State is 13-0. If the Buckeyes beat Florida, they will be crowned the national champions. We will have waited 3 weeks from the last regular season game to the 'National Championship'. Regardless of timeline, why couldn't a few more games be played? Should Boise State get a shot at Ohio State? Yes, most definately, even if they get blown out.

20. Nuggets get an Answer
Tuesday, 19 December 2006

The denver nuggets got an answer, both from the NBA, and from the Philedelphia 76ers. First, the Nuggets and Knicks debacle. The hard foul was completely un-called for. But the cheap shot Melo threw out, and then running away is both cowardly and sad. It scary to see what is happening to America's greatest commodity; yes sports. From the gridion to the hardfloor, players are changing. Thank God there are still some good stories and excellent players out there. Dwayne Wade of the Heat, Joe Mauer from the MN Twins, L.T. from the Chargers. Players who care just as much about the intergrity of the game as their communities and themselves.
Now on to the Nuggies. Not a fan of them, but now? The Answer is coming to town. Before Wade jumped from Marquette to the League, Mr. Iverson was my favorite player. Yeah he had the same background as many of the other NBA players. But he had something many of the now divas of the NBA don't. An unreachable tenacity to play his heart out game-in game-out. Sure he had problmes off court, a lot of them, but once he stepped on the hardfloor, he played everygame like it was his last. And, he's carried the 76ers for 10 years, it looks like this year it finally was just too large of a load. The Sixers stink. But the Answer is coming to CO, and everyone in CO should be cautiously optimistic.
The only problem is can Melo take a back seat to the Answer? Probably not, and perhaps he shouldn't. But Iverson has been THE man in Philly for 10 years, it is going to be hard to pass that rock up. Maybe Melo's scardey-cat chaep shot was for the best. Gives Ivy 15 games to be the man, and get into Karl's gameplan; once the suspension is up, be ready for anything from a Championship Title to utter debacle and bickering.

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.
