6. Part II concert week
Thursday, 29 March 2007

eeesh!

I've been really late in updating the second half of my concert week. Probably because it was much more enjoyable. So I'll be quick...

Parking. Was easy! We walked about half a block to get in, found our seats right away, did not wait in line, did not hear any off-key singing or have to deal with any jerks (just one smelly guy).

We bought a reasonably priced CD, enjoyed a homecoming for the band called: Disappointed by Candy, and discovered a band called: Need to Breathe. Both opening band were very cool. And Jars of Clay was completely awesome. No gimicks just great music....

And so concert week ended peacefully, and I enjoyed a bit of rest the next day. Who could ask for more.

7. You know you're old when...
Monday, 05 March 2007

...concerts hold a different meaning to you. Though I would hardly call myself a seasoned expert on concert-going, I have been to quite a few and have learned the hard way that all the "plans" you make for concerts end up being unnecessary, unless you want to get the most for your buck. Keep reading...

Part I of my concert week is complete. I went to see My Chemical Romance on Sunday night with my young sisters and cousin. For my two youngest sisters, it was their first concert. The show was very entertaining, and there was lots to look at and dance too. We were at the same show, but the similarities end there.

First up is fashion. While I was wearing something comfortable that I could stand up and dance and be comfortable in moving about (and be semi warm in) My sisters had to dress in black with My Chemical Romance plastered all over (as it is standard attire for the band). I was chastized for wearing spring green pastels. I changed into my gothic-looking sweater and then they were fine.

However once we got to the concert. I saw one too many preteens dressed in skimpy and probably not very warm outfits (It turned out to be a pretty cold wait for general admission)

Second. No one could eat or drink any sort of food of beverage to avoid bathroom breaks. No kidding. My sisters ended up having breakfast at midnight on our way home. I enjoyed the day's meals.

Third. Standing in line!
I remember I was so excited to stand in line to wait for my favorite band. I was doing it for them. I was braving the cold and the jerks in line and the off-key singing for them. That was then. Now, If I can avoid waiting in line (especially in the cold) I'm doing that instead, for me!

Fourth. Standing Room Only vs. Seats
hahahahahahahahahahahaha! That is what they like to call it. It's actually "Stand-If-You-Can Room Only". I got tired of fighting my way through crowds, trying to keep from being trampled and generally tossed around. My sisters were in the standing room only area. I enjoyed the show from a comfy seat and better yet, I was able to visit the ladies room when I needed to and not have to claw my way back to where I was.

Earplugs. Now you know that I "am" old and was willing to wear these at the concert. I've been to one too many concerts where I ended up right in front of very large speakers. I'm sure I've got some kind of hearing loss. I wasn't up to losing more.

After going through what they had to go through just to be close to the stage and see Gerard Way and Frank and Bob sweat, and be able to throw the band love notes and other stuff onto the stage. After pushing and punching other concert-goers just to keep their spots close to the stage and enduring phases of weakness from not eating all day and waiting in line in the freezing cold...  I said: I told you that concerts aren't all that fun when you have to do all this.

They just said: Yeah, but it's My Chemical Romance as they jumped up and down and bought band t-shirts and armbands and other stuff that cost way too much money.

I guess some things are worth the trouble when you're young enough, and have the energy to do it. I know I don't.

Part II of concert week coming soon...

8. My busy concert life
Wednesday, 28 February 2007

I'm getting pretty excited for this weekend and the week ahead. It's one thing to go to a concert and it's another to go to two concerts in the same week.

I'll be going to see "My Chemical Romance," a band I don't care for too much, but who's songs I've listened to nonstop (thanks to my sisters) on Sunday. I've listened to the songs so much, that I actually kind of like some of them. And then I'll be going to see "Jars of Clay" in Greeley on Wednesday night.

The "Jars of Clay" concert is my dream come true. I missed seeing them when they came to Fort Collins about three years ago, maybe four. And even though it's during the week, the show is so close to my home that it really doesn't matter, that I'll be home late. And I love this band so much, they really are my favorite ever. Not even John Mayer is close, okay, well maybe he is a very close second.

Anyway, talk about opposite ends of the spectrum! My Chemical Romance to Jars of Clay within three days. My concert life is looking exciting. In June, I'll be going to see the Police with my boyfriend. And tickets are on sale now for a second show. Check ticketmaster.com.

If John Mayer comes back to do a show in the area, and I get to go to to the show it will be the perfect concert year. And It's only February! =o)

9. My dog loves stuffed animals.
Thursday, 15 February 2007

So everyone knows that Valentine's Day was yesterday, and most of us got some kind of gift or card.

I got a cute stuffed animal bear (among other things). After I got home I put my new teddy bear on the couch as I unloaded stuff from my car. Once I was in, I let my pet lab in the house.

First thing he does is go straight for my Valentine's Day bear! I guess it's my fault he loves plush toys so much. His first dog toy was a plush, orange bone with a squeaker in it. From that day forward, he believed anything that was remotely cute and fuzzy has a squeaker in it and therefore must be destroyed.

I don't know how many stuffed animals he has torn apart in his quest to find a squeaker. My bear might have been a victim of this search. Good thing I caught him in time... or my bear would have ended up a heap of fuzz and cotton, and Viggo would have ended up disappointed yet again.

10. your personality?
Thursday, 25 January 2007

I found this on one NEXTnc's friends' myspace, and thought it might be something cool to post here too. I'm a sucker for these kinds of quizzes, so here goes... Obviously there is a link to the site where you can take these quizzes. But I thought I would include it again anyway just in case. It is www.blogthings.com.

You Are An ISFJ

The Nurturer

You have a strong need to belong, and you are very loyal.

You are also a good listener, you excell at helping others in practical ways.

In your spare time, you enjoy engaging your senses through art, cooking, and music.

You find it easy to be devoted to one person, who you do special things for.

You would make a good interior designer, chef, or child psychologist.

You can find out what your personality is too. In case you didn't know. Some of us don't. I had to take something sort of test like this for work. I think they're pretty much matching up. Even though I sometimes don't listen and my ways are less than practical at times. =o)

I don't think I would be a very good child psychologist. That is weird.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
