It's just "a typical New York moment," or collection of moments, this movie "Bella." Girl meets boy at work. Girl is pregnant. She's fired. He walks off the job and spends a day trying to talk her out of an abortion, maybe by sharing his "deep dark secret." |

In the movies, family reunions always take place in a big, old house. There are always too many kids, too many generations, lots of invasions of personal space. |

When bad things happen to good people, do we really want to know? It's an awfully callous question to have to ask, but one that scratched its way onto the edges of my notepad more than once during "Reservation Road," an arduous melodrama set in a high-tax-bracket corner of Connecticut. |

| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |
