A tale of a rat with a gourmet's palate and the inept young cook he befriends probably shouldn't work (rats - in the kitchen ? Ewwwww!) and yet it does. |

There are chick flicks, and then there are CHICK FLICKS!!! "Evening," an adaptation of author Susan Minot's romantic weeper, clearly is one of the latter. Boasting an ensemble of Hollywood's best actresses, this drama is unabashedly sentimental but still effective. It streamlines the book's narrative but never overlooks a chance to tug on the viewer's heartstrings. Savvy theater managers will stock Kleenex in the concession stand. |

There's something comforting about formula. The three (now four) "Die Hard" films starring Bruce Willis are virtually the same movie. Only the specifics are changed from movie to movie. But you know what? It's still fun. |

In Hollywood screenplay parlance, there is no "arc" to Mariane Pearl. When we meet her, as played by Angelina Jolie in the film of the book Pearl wrote, "A Mighty Heart," she is a strong, in-control woman - a smart, tolerant journalist and a no-nonsense wife of another journalist in a part of the world that doesn't forgive mistakes: Pakistan. |

And lo, it came to pass that "Bruce Almighty" begat "Evan Almighty." And Steve Carell stared as a modern Noah, gathering unto him his wife and kids and two of every animal to save them from the flood that was promised from on high. |

Most ghost stories bore you with a long setup before getting down to the good stuff. "1408" is just the other way around. The first half hour, when director Mikael Hafstrom and three writers (working from a Stephen King story) are putting all their ducks in a row, is terrific. It's smart, clever and subtle. |

Most music biopics follow a familiar arc, and in some ways Olivier Dahan's "La Vie en Rose" appears no different: a childhood of pain and poverty, false steps and shaky beginnings, a mentor or two, wild times on the road, discovery, debauchery, success, fame, death. |

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
