Like a number of recent films, "Rise: Blood Hunter" begins without opening credits. Some movies use an abrupt beginning to launch their story with uninterrupted drive. This coarse vampire noir likely delayed listing the filmmakers in hopes that by the fadeout the audience would be long gone, sparing the guilty parties well-deserved embarrassment. |

It's unkind to be cynical about a film like "Gracie," a semi-autobiographical feature from actor-producers Elisabeth and Andrew Shue, based on their own family tragedy. Yet we must be honest. It's a trite, indifferently told underdog sports story that could only have been redeemed by perfect execution. |

The captivating Irish musical romance "Once" will warm all but the stoniest hearts. The film chronicles the yearning mutual attraction between The Guy (an anonymous Dublin street busker played by Glen Hansard of the Frames) and The Girl (a nameless Czech immigrant played by pianist Marketa Irglova.) |

Earl Brooks, the successful businessman played by Kevin Costner in "Mr. Brooks," is a serial killer. But his avocation is more symbolic than anything, since the film really is concerned with secrets people keep from loved ones. |

A lot of people thought that Kevin Costner should have passed on "Mr. Brooks.'' You're playing a serial killer, they said, and your fans won't like that. It's a small, independent production, they said, and it's going to get lost amid the studios' over-hyped blockbuster wannabes. And it leaves too much for the viewers to figure out on their own, they said, including an ending that doesn't tie up everything in a neat, easily understood resolution. |

Whether you're satisfied or stupefied by the latest "Pirates of the Caribbean" film, you won't feel shortchanged. If this extravaganza of frenzied action, multitudes of featured performers, titanic naval battles and a flotilla of miraculous special effects could be distilled to a single word it would be: Whew! |

William Friedkin is a merchant of nightmares, from the car-crunching violence of "The French Connection" to the occult dread of "The Exorcist" to the South American survivalist drama of "Sorcerer." His movies don't go away after you've seen them, but remain in your head for days, working their claws into your anxieties. |

Though the title refers to what was, to Democrats at least, the unpardonable sin of putting George W. Bush in the White House — if Ralph Nader given his support to Al Gore instead of remaining in the race as an independent candidate, Gore would almost assuredly won in the electoral college as well as by popular vote — it is ultimately meant to be a compliment. |

America's favorite ogre scored some long green this weekend. "Shrek the Third," the further adventures of a grumpy ogre and his wisecracking pals, earned $122 million in its first three days, the highest opening weekend of all time for an animated film and the third highest for any film, trailing only "Spider-Man 3" and the second "Pirates of the Caribbean." |

| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
