They've gotten an entertaining movie out of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's "Love in the Time of Cholera." But it's also one of those epic miscalculations that Hollywood makes, every so often, to let us know that, no, they haven't necessarily read the book. |

"American Gangster" is 2 ½ hours of pleasure with a guilty aftertaste. It takes the length of this engrossing picture to fathom how much it has glorified the drug dealer and killer played by Denzel Washington. |

"Bee Movie" gets an A-plus. Jerry Seinfeld's venture into the world of animated comedy successfully breaks new ground for him while reminding us why his sitcom was one of the funniest programs in TV history. |

This is shaping up to be John Cusack's year. First, he turned in a chilling performance in "1408" to make that film one of the scariest of the year. Now he has turned in an equally impressive performance in "Martian Child." |

"Control" is a joy. It's one of the best music biopics in years, as good as the Johnny Cash film "Walk the Line" and the Ray Charles saga "Ray." Of course, the movie isn't likely to receive as much attention as either of those, in large part because its subject isn't well known to the American public. |

It's just "a typical New York moment," or collection of moments, this movie "Bella." Girl meets boy at work. Girl is pregnant. She's fired. He walks off the job and spends a day trying to talk her out of an abortion, maybe by sharing his "deep dark secret." |

In the movies, family reunions always take place in a big, old house. There are always too many kids, too many generations, lots of invasions of personal space. |

When bad things happen to good people, do we really want to know? It's an awfully callous question to have to ask, but one that scratched its way onto the edges of my notepad more than once during "Reservation Road," an arduous melodrama set in a high-tax-bracket corner of Connecticut. |

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
