WHERE TO DANCE IN NORTHERN COLORADO
Whatever you’re style, there’s a social dance and place to learn waiting for you:
SWING
Swing dance comes in many variations, from West Coast Swing to East Coast Swing and Lindy Hop to Jive. It is commonly associated with the roaring ’20s and the Big Band era. The upbeat music has a way of keeping you on your toes and in constant motion.

- Lessons at 7 p.m., followed by dancing every Wednesday at the Swing Station, Overland Trail and Larimer County Road 54G, Laporte. Free. Details, 224.3326.

SALSA (not the type you dip chips in)
There is a resurgence in salsa dancing and many bars and clubs in Colorado now feature salsa nights. The sexy style of dance is known world-wide and is one of the main dances in Cuba and Puerto Rico. Salsa is typically done to Latin music and is an addictive form of dance.
- Lessons at 7:30 p.m., dancing from 8-10:30 p.m. every Tuesday upstairs at The Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant, 143 W. Mountain Ave., Fort Collins. $3 per person. Details, 224.5428.

COUNTRY LINE DANCING
Line dancing isn’t only for cowboys.
The repetitive nature of the dance makes it something anyone can learn. It’s a form of social dance that doesn’t require a partner.
A group of people dance in one or more lines, executing the same movements. So, saddle up and head to the dance floor.
- Beginner lessons from 5:30-6:15 p.m., intermediate lessons from 6:15-7 p.m., couples dance lessons — which include two-step, triple two-step, country swing and more — are at 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday at Sundance Steakhouse and Saloon, 2716 E. Mulberry St., Fort Collins. $3 per person. Details, 416.8824.
CONTRA Contra dancing is a form of American folk dancing done to Celtic music. The dance moves are similar to square-dance moves, but sets of couples dance in facing lines. The caller cues the dancers through each move. Contra dance is a community oriented form of social dance.
- Friends of Traditional Dance contra lessons are from 7-8 p.m., with dancing from 8-11 p.m. every first and third Saturday at Club Tico in City Park Center, 1599 City Park Drive, Fort Collins. $6 per person. Details, 493.8277.
SINGLES
Social dancing is a great way to meet new people in a relaxed atmosphere. There’s nothing like breaking the ice by stepping on someone else’s toes with your two left feet.
- Lessons are at 6 p.m., dancing from 6:30-9 p.m. every Tuesday at the Bayou House, 33131 U.S. 85, Lucerne. Styles include a little bit of everything from country to polka to disco, with a DJ playing music from 1940s to present. $4 cover. Ages 30-80. Details, 356.6262.
TANGO It does take two to tango, so grab your partner. Tango originated in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Montevideo, Uruguay. The dramatic social dance is associated with romance and love.

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | Hola Amigos! I'm Sandra. I like to believe that people are 70 percent good and 30 percent dumb. I'm stickin to that story. Reading this blog might make you want to be good, but probably just dumb. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!

| | Ms. Giles currently lives in Colorado where she stars in her own private reality show. She writes aphoristic accounts of her life, taken completely out of context, and embellished with characters and situations disguised to resemble something close to interesting. | |

| | My name is Michelle Turley and I'm 28 years old. I live in Severance with my hubbie, Brandon. We have 2 dogs and a cat. We enjoy camping, four-wheeling, and just being in the mountains. I like to cook, clean (go figure), flea market, and play poker. I have so much to say about poker... | | |
