WASHINGTON — July was hot, hot, hot. But not the hottest ever.
Last month’s blistering heat wave was the second hottest July on record for the United States.
The National Climatic Data Center reported Monday that more than 2,300 daily temperature records were broken from coast to coast, and the average temperature for the 48 contiguous states was 77.2 degrees Fahrenheit.
HOTTEST JULY:
July 1936 still holds the record at 77.5, while July 1934 fell to third place at 77.1, the agency said.
ANOTHER HOT RECORD:
Overall, the first seven months of 2006 were the warmest January-July of any year in the United States on record.
GLOBAL WARMING:
No single heat wave can be blamed exclusively on human-induced global warming, according to scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. But in the coming decades, heat waves will become more likely and progressively more intense. | Only registered users can write comments.

I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
