A Christian movie critic is outraged over the movie "Hounddog," which was screened at this week's Sundance Film Festival.
Ted Baehr, chairman of the Christian Film and Television Commission, criticized a rape scene in the movie, which features 12-year-old star Dakota Fanning.
He hasn't seen the movie, but is responding to descriptions of the scene. He wrote on worldnetdaily.com that the movie industry shows "little or no concern for protecting the innocence of children, much less the sexual purity of teenagers and young adults. It is truly a shame when young girls are led to evil by Those Who Should Be Protecting Their Innocence."
Baehr is founder of the Web site movieguide.org.
Todd McCarthy, movie critic for Variety magazine — who did see the movie — said it "is an indigestible gumbo of Southern Gothic ingredients seasoned with snake oil, biblical hash and thoroughly unpalatable spice."
According to other news reports, there are no national distributors willing to bring the independent movie to national audiences.
Hopefully, this sends a message to moviemakers that in their quest to make "art," they should temper it with good taste and restraint. | Only registered users can write comments.

I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk.
