Men are from Mars and women are from Venus, so the saying goes, but they often come to the same kitchen to eat.
Fort Collins resident and astrologer Gail Matulewicz Culver will be cookin’ up relationship insight according to Venus and Mars principles Feb. 7 at the Salud! Cooking and Lifestyle School at Whole Foods Market in Fort Collins.
Food and astrology?
A person’s Venus and Mars signs can say something about what types of food that person desires, Culver said. So, when it comes to a special Valentine’s Day meal, particular foods might do the trick for your significant other.
Culver likes to cook for her husband and, by examining the stars, she knows exactly what to cook.
“He wants mashed potatoes and a good T-bone steak,” she said. “That’s the kind of guy he is. If I were cooking for a party, I would look at where the planets are that night to try and please everyone.”
Culver is a well-known astrologer across the country. She began her consulting practice in the 1980s and has appeared on radio and cable television. She and her husband Roger Culver, a Colorado State University astronomy professor, have appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”
“It’s uncanny how astrology works in people’s lives,” Culver said.
During the lecture at Whole Foods, Culver will explain how the positions of Mars and Venus indicate how people express both feminine and masculine principles according to birth charts.
“The sign that Venus is in at the time of a person’s birth is what we are like, whether we are male or female,” she said. “It is what we enjoy and also how we love others.” Mars represents what we desire, she said. It describes the way we pursue getting those desires met.
The sign of Venus and Mars are different from year to year and differ from the sun signs, which are what are found in newspaper horoscopes.

| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
