Future of Bruces Bar uncertain |

Patrons and workers at Bruce’s Bar in Severance face an uncertain future now six months after the bar’s founder died.
In fact, Wednesday could be the last day for the Rocky Mountain Oysters and friendship that has spanned 50 years.
Bar management had a ‘last hurrah’ party yesterday afternoon, and patrons could eat all the Rocky Mountain Oysters and drink all the beer they want for a cover charge of $20.
“When Bruce died, it was very, very sad and we had calls from all over the world,” said Brim. “This is like going through it again but it’s worse. It’s his legacy.”
Late Tuesday, Brim wouldn’t discuss problems the bar has faced since founder Bruce Ruth’s death at 73 last August.
Ruth bought the Severance Recreation Hall in 1957 for $6,000 and renamed it Bruce’s Bar. Known more for the saying, ‘Where the geese fly and the bulls cry,’ the bar put the tiny town of Severance on the map, gaining worldwide attention in magazines and newspapers.
Eric Troudt has been a customer of the bar for a good 20 years, and said the news of the bar possibly closing was devastating.
“It’s an atrocity,” Troudt said. “It should be a historical monument.”

I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk.
