Yoga and Weights. What a combo!

Bikram Yoga Colleges in Fort Collins and Greeley are joining forces for a 60-day fitness challenge aimed at focusing on your mind in order to change your body.

Bikram studios in both cities begin a community-wide challenge today, Feb. 1, open to beginners and advanced practitioners of “hot” yoga, ages 18-65. The 60-Day Bikram Challenge runs through April 2 and aims to “change your mind to change your body,” said Fort Collins studio owner Bridget Gharrity.

Participants take 60 classes in 60 days in either Fort Collins or Greeley studios.  Those who complete the challenge are eligible for a discounted membership package of 40 percent off. Those completing 52 classes in 60 days can receive 20 percent off a package.

“Challenge yourself to do yoga every day and you’ll feel amazing benefits,” Gharrity said. “In 60 days, you will build mental, physical and emotional strength through group energy and karma.”

Bikram yoga originated in India and was developed in the early 1970s by Bikram Choudhury, according to a release. It is touted for building energy, stamina, flexibility, balance and for stretching internal organs, which releases deficient hormones and enzymes in the body.

This type of yoga is performed in a heated studio — the recommended temperature is 105 degrees — to allow for maximum flexibility and detoxifying of the body. There are 26 poses in the Bikram routine that work to balance the body in a 90-minute session.

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
