At first I couldn't believe it: Someone started a campaign to confer the same status on the Super Bowl as on the birthdays of presidents, civil rights leaders and even Jesus.

Turning the Super Bowl into a federal holiday. Farfetched, right?

Then I started reading the arguments laid out by http://www.superbowlmonday.com , which points out these similarities between football's holiest day and other, legitimate, holy days.

• Extended families and friends gathering? Check.

• Large feasts? Yep.

• Decorations? You got it.

• People missing work (and some employers already granting a day off)? Hallelujah!

So far, 11,000 people have visited the site to log their vote for a Super Bowl holiday, which would be observed on the Monday after the game. Site founder Robert Chute says if he can get about 90,000 more online "signatures," he'll take the case to his Congresswoman.

Congress? That's where my buffalo wing-fueled reverie screeched to a halt. Creating a new federal holiday would require Congress to pass a bill and the president to sign it. Not sure who • other than North Carolina's Rep. Heath Schuler • would go for that.

Of course, there are plenty of widely celebrated holidays that don't get the day-off treatment, including Valentine's Day, Halloween and Mother's Day. Plenty of people put as much time and effort into celebrating the Super Bowl as they do those holidays.

"Super Bowl Sunday is already a holiday. It just doesn't have that tag," Chute said.

So maybe the Super Bowl is doing just fine without any petitions or recognition.

asap reporter Jonathan Drew was surprised to find that Monday already is a holiday — Weatherperson's Day — according to http://www.holidays.net.

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
