OpenStage Theatre’ first show of its 2006-2007 season, “Italian American Reconciliation,” is a gritty, sparkling tale about lovers, dreamers and confusion.
It is written by John Patrick Shanley and directed by Devora Millman. Shanley won the Academy Award for “Moonstruck” (1987) and the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for “Doubt” (2005).

“Italian American Reconciliation” is the passionately funny tale of Huey Bonfigliano, who tries to reconcile with his dog-shooting ex-wife Janice to prove he is man enough for his new love — much to the chagrin of his girlfriend Theresa, his best friend Aldo Scalicki, and even Janice herself.

Director Devora Millman details the reason why she wanted to direct the play: “It’s about my favorite subject — flawed human beings, which is the only way they come. Italian American Reconciliation is a modern folktale where love is passionate, funny and endearing.”

Millman describes the play as “…taking place in a 24-hour period in which the moon and stars align, and suddenly, everyone is compelled to tell the truth. The play is barebones and sweet. It makes you want to go home and tell the truth in creative new ways. It will leave you completely uplifted and satisfied, having satiated you with a myriad of emotions… especially laughter.”

Major funding for “Italian American Reconciliation” is provided by Style Media and Design with additional support from Carousel Properties.

The free student performance is underwritten by John and Anne Blair.

OpenStage Theatre & Company’s 2006-2007 seasons are supported by grants from the Colorado Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, the City of Fort Collins Fort Fund, the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado and the Thornton Family Foundation.

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
