Valentine’s Day should be spent with someone special — a best friend perhaps. It should be spent with someone who knows the meaning of unconditional love and jumps for joy the moment you walk in the door.

For that reason, it’s no surprise that Valentine’s Day is going to the dogs in Fort Collins.

For the fourth year in a row, New Belgium Brewing Company will host a Valentine’s Day Chocolate Fundraiser to benefit the Larimer Humane Society.

“Fort Collins is a very dog-friendly community,” said Bryan Simpson, spokesperson for New Belgium.

Newfoundlands down to purse-sized Chihuahuas will accompany their owners for an enjoyable outing to the brewery. While owners indulge in chocolate and beer, pooches’ mouths will water for dog biscuits made from recycled beer — nonalcoholic, of course.

“It’s a lot of fun,” said Cary Rentola, Larimer Humane Society spokesperson. “Every time I talk to people about it, they can’t help but smile. There’s goodies for people and dogs. It’s a great event on a special day.”

Because the event was such a hit last year, New Belgium will increase the Belgian Chocolatier Belvedere chocolate samples from 350 to 500 boxes, Simpson said. Chocolate samples are available for a $10 donation, which also enters you in a raffle for a custom New Belgium cruiser bike. The beer samples will be free, as always, and a special pomegranate wheat beer called Valentine’s Day Ale will be featured.

The Larimer Humane Society staff will be on hand with pictures of animals up for adoption and to answer any questions.

Simpson, who adopted Gibby, a shepherd mix from the humane society, said he may bring his pooch along.

“He might come on down,” Simpson said. “He’s a super friendly guy.”

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
