For all of the pomp and production that goes into putting on the Grammys, there can still be some awkward moments at the music industry’s biggest awards show.
Some of the gaffes take place on the red carpet and during the telecast, but others happen only backstage.
Here’s a look at some deliciously awkward moments during Sunday’s 49th annual Grammy Awards. ———
NICE TIE During the pre-telecast portion of the awards show, Miss Universe Zuleyka Rivera presented the Grammy award for Best Latin Pop Album. Rivera, however, listed both Arjona for “Adentro” and Julieta Venegas for “Limon Y Sal” when reading the winners, so it wasn’t really clear who had actually won. The members of the Spanish-language press corps were understandably confused because a Grammy official said only Arjona had taken the prize. Later, a Grammy official came back into the press room to say it was a tie.

NO A CAPPELLA BY BENNETT Tony Bennett talked to reporters after winning the Grammy for best pop collaboration with vocals for the song “For Once In My Life” with Stevie Wonder.
A Grammy official tried to put Bennett on the spot by mentioning that he’s known for his a cappella performances and asked him if he’d sing.
“You’d have to pay me for that,” Bennett responded with a sly smile and then moved on to the next question.

LINGERING ON THE RED CARPET Irish singer Enya — the single-name queen of New Age music — has won three Grammys before, but until Sunday she’s never attended a Grammys ceremony.
Yet, when she actually won the Grammy for Best New Age Album during the Grammy pre-telecast, the award had to be accepted on her behalf.
“I was actually on the red carpet,” Enya explained. “But the news was wonderful when I heard about it.”
Chente Barrera also was on the red carpet when he and his band won the Grammy for Best Tejano Album during the pre-telecast.
“I missed the biggest thing,” he said.

YOU LAUGHING AT ME? Bill Harley was in the spotlight after winning a Grammy in the obscure Spoken Word Album for Children category during the pre-telecast.
He was in the media room for print reporters talking about “Blah Blah Blah: Stories About Clams, Swamp Monsters, Pirates and Dogs,” when a reporter in the front row started cracking up at something else.
“Don’t laugh at me, I’m having my moment,” Harley said.

NICE QUESTIONS John Mayer was asked by an interviewer from the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” why he didn’t thank her in his acceptance speech, and what kind of watch he would send to her.
Before the interviewer could ask a third question, Mayer told him: “These are very difficult questions for me to answer. And I’ll tell you why. Because the questions aren’t really questions designed for me to answer. They’re more like funny statements with a question mark. You know what I mean?”
———
HUH? Jazz legend Ornette Coleman, 76, was honored with a lifetime achievement award, even though he’s never won a Grammy.
He and Natalie Cole also presented the Best New Artist award to “American Idol” alum Carrie Underwood.
When asked how he felt giving the award to country singer Underwood, Coleman gave a straight-up response: “I hear what you’re saying, but I can’t put it together why you asked the question,” Coleman said.
The reporter explained his reasoning, and Coleman answered his question. “I never think about how I feel, I think about how I don’t feel,” Coleman said. ——

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
