Turn down the lights, fluff up your pillows, put on some soft music and ... exercise?
That’s right, it’s a new kind of workout routine — the kind that you can practice even when you can’t drag yourself out of bed.
In fact, staying in bed is precisely the point.
Yoga has seen all kinds of adaptations during its recent years of burgeoning popularity, from Bikram yoga (in a heated room) to airplane yoga to yoga for kids and yoga for pets. And now, thanks to a new DVD, you can even take the hippest exercise on the block to bed, downward doggy style.
All it takes is 10 to 12 minutes twice a day, in the morning and at night. “I’d like it to be as much of someone’s life as brushing their teeth,” said Edward Vilga, the creator of the upcoming DVD “Yoga in Bed: 20 Asanas to Do in Pajamas” and recently released book of the same title.
Vilga is a New York yoga instructor who realized a lot of people are intimidated by some of the poses in regular yoga classes or just don’t have time to attend classes as much as they would like, if ever. He thought bringing yoga into the bedroom would offer everybody better access.
The DVD features morning routines that help get you energized for the day, and evening poses that help relieve tension and provide a better night of sleep. The background music is jazzy and gentle, and the setting is a place we all recognize rather than some edenic coastal resort or desert landscape.
In general the poses are similar at both ends of the day, but the morning routines tend to be more vigorous, with a focus on waking up, while the nighttime poses have “a softer quality, with more lingering in the shapes,” Vilga said. | Only registered users can write comments. | | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
