WICHITA, Kan. — Call it an academic exacta.
Jakub Voboril, 17, a senior at Bishop Carroll High School, found out that he aced both the ACT and SAT exams. He learned last month that he scored a perfect 36 on his ACT — one of only two perfect scores in Kansas.
He aced it after scoring 32 and 34 on his first two tries.
“Part of me said, ’That’s good enough. You can stop there,”’ he said. “But I decided to take it one more time to see what happened.”
He took the SAT the same week and those results -- a perfect 2400 -- came in shortly after he got his ACT scores. ——— GOOD GENES Voboril comes from good genes: his two older sisters were high school valedictorians.
He hasn’t settled on a college or major, but has considered math, philosophy and law, possibly at the University of Notre Dame or Princeton.
NONE OF THE ABOVE Voboril said he didn’t have an answer for how he scored so well.
“It’s weird, because before I took it, I checked out a couple books from the library. I expected there to be this big secret that all the smart people had that I just had to read.
“But I found out there’s not a secret formula. Obviously, you have to pay attention in classes, take classes that are going to teach you what you need to know — that sort of thing.”
RARE FEAT No statistics are available on how many students have aced both tests, but it has to be rare.
“Suffice it to say, it’s a very, very small number,” said Brian O’Reilly, a spokesman for the College Board, which administers the SAT. | Only registered users can write comments. Please login or register. |

| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
