In his 25 years, Josh Dillard has found plenty to sing about. His lyrics draw from experiences and emotion to strike a chord in people’s hearts.
“I don’t really write stuff that’s not biographical,” he said. “A lot of my songwriting is super honest and real.”
The Fort Collins singer/songwriter grew up in Denver playing the piano and singing in choir.
“I really started to get into music in high school when I learned the craft of songwriting,” he said. “I began writing and playing more guitar. I transferred schools and was kinda a loner. It pushed me further into music.”
Dillard is a Colorado State University senior studying Social Work. On Feb. 16, he will release his first album. From there he will wait to see what happens.
“There’s just so many songwriters out there, sometimes I think it’s almost useless or vain to pursue,” he said. “But, it’s a part of who I am. Writing songs is just a result of how I live and express emotions.”
NEXTnc: What was your high school prom like? If you had a chance to go back, what would you change? Dillard: I went to another high school prom. It was definitely a terrible experience. I went with a girl who ended up not talking to me the entire night. It was pretty awkward. I probably just wouldn’t go.
NEXTnc: Who are you listening to on your iPod right now? Dillard: A group called The Slip. The new album called Eisenhower is really cool. I’ve been listening to that a lot.
NEXTnc: What’s your comfort food? Dillard: I can’t really afford food. I can’t even remember the last time I was comforted by food. That’s probably why I’m so skinny.
NEXTnc: What is the biggest problem our world faces today? Dillard: The lack of awareness of what is occurring in parts of Africa. About 400,000 people have been killed in the Darfur region, 2.5 million have been displaced from their homes and 25,000 kids have been kidnapped and forced to fight in the army. There needs to be more awareness and a willingness to take action to seek change.
NEXTnc: Imagine your first big show at Red Rocks, who would you want to open for? Dillard: I would say Coldplay. I think that has turned into more of a fashionable statement, but I’ve been obsessed with them for years. I think he is such a musical genius. His music is so emotional.

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | Hola Amigos! I'm Sandra. I like to believe that people are 70 percent good and 30 percent dumb. I'm stickin to that story. Reading this blog might make you want to be good, but probably just dumb. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!

| | My name is Michelle Turley and I'm 28 years old. I live in Severance with my hubbie, Brandon. We have 2 dogs and a cat. We enjoy camping, four-wheeling, and just being in the mountains. I like to cook, clean (go figure), flea market, and play poker. I have so much to say about poker... | | |
