Deacon Gray has figured out what the Rev. Ted Haggard used to transform himself back into a heterosexual.
“Dickoderm — the patch. It cures that craving; after that it’s just the oral fixation you have got to worry about,” said the laughing comedian.
Gray has been making Colorado residents chuckle for the past seven years and more people can have their funny bones tickled on Feb. 18, when Gray makes a stop at the Yukon in Loveland.
“The Yukon reminds me of venues back home (in Oklahoma) with the gravel driveway,” Gray said. “I really enjoy performing there.”
Don’t expect any trite jokes about TomKat or Anna Nicole Smith to come out of the mouth of Gray, who says he’s less interested in mainstream jokes. “I like to keep it organic,” Gray said. “I deal with my upbringing and religion and social issues.”
Gray grew up in a conservative, rural Oklahoma setting and is the youngest of five brothers, three of whom are preachers — all of different faiths.
“It’s like going home and having brothers of different nationalities,” Gray said.
“There’s a lot of Bible talk, but it’s interesting and fun.” But Gray doesn’t use religion as his only fodder for entertainment. Gray said the culture shock of coming to Denver from a rural setting provides for plenty of entertainment.
The funny man has been working the comedy stages since college in 1986. Gray graduated from the University of Oklahoma with degrees in journalism and English and while he’s tried the 9-to-5 work routine, it cut too much into his creativity.
“I never fit in very well with any other profession I’ve tried. Corporate is away from creative people,” Gray said. “It got to a point where I could keep changing careers every two or three years, or I could work for myself.”
And Gray has made a successful career out of self-employment. Opening for comedians like Chris Rock, Paula Poundstone and Drew Carey, Gray has made a name for himself in the comedy world.

| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
