Just as you're starting to plan your spring wardrobe, designers were parading their fall 2007 collections during Fashion Week. And in some shows, it appeared as if the designers were confusing the seasons. Little sleeveless dresses of chiffon and organza in pale neutrals showed up several times, and a couple of designers showed white cotton.

Regardless of fabric, it was dresses, dresses and more dresses.

Dresses were in every collection, ranging from the ubiquitous baby-doll styles to sleek, long-sleeved columns.
But it was Diane von Furstenberg's show that had the most dresses. Little black dresses, shifts, flapper dresses, dresses with coats and cocktail dresses of many colors, prints and patterns were among the collection.

The empire waist was in every collection, used on dresses, coats, jackets and blouses. The baby-doll look and empire coats won't work for everyone, but if you like those looks, you'll have plenty to choose from.

Generally, it will be a good season for those who prefer to hide their waistline. If you have a great waistline, however, there are wide belts to accent your asset.
And fall 2007 will be a season of sleeve treatments. Puffy sleeves appeared on everything from blouses to dresses to jackets and coats. Some sleeves were very full on opera capes and trapeze jackets.

With the temperatures outside in the single digits, fur coats were seen on and off the runway. Popular styles for next year are the shrug and other very short styles.
The shine and shimmer of metallic seems to return every season, and fall will be no exception. Myriad designers used platinum, silver, antique gold, matte gold and pewter for day and evening.

While looks from the '60s and '70s were everywhere, clean, polished looks came from those we depend on for sensible, beautifully tailored clothes - Carolina Herrera, Michael Vollbracht's Bill Blass collection and George Sharp's Ellen Tracy collection.

But one designer, Marc Jacobs, who has done entire collections of grunge and other fashion-forward looks, stunned his followers with a pared-down collection of tailored, classic looks.

In the color category, the favorites were plum, grape, eggplant, Bordeaux and raspberry. These shades were teamed with every shade of gray and black.
Most of the greens were loden, and a few designers used true brights such as orange and yellow.

The black and white combination will carry over from spring, and, of course, black was in every collection.

Some super-skinny pant legs were shown, but most were fuller, and waistlines were higher.

Tights were on nearly every model who was wearing a short skirt. Only Michael Kors sent his models out with bare legs. He was also one of several designers who had huge cowl collars on some of his sweaters.

And in the will-we-really-see-that category: short shorts in the dead of winter.

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
