Artistic differences are inevitable in any band. But for the Fort Collins band Orooni, it’s all about the music.
“You have to take if for what it is,” said Phil Salvaggio, guitarist and vocals for Orooni. “It’s like being married to three other people when you are in a band.
Something is always going to offend somebody. We, for instance rag on each other all the time, but you can’t let it get to you. Best friends are always going to talk shit to each other. You can’t take it or yourself too seriously, otherwise you are never going to succeed.”
After touring full force for a solid year, the improvisational progressive rock/jam band decided to take a break. After resting up a bit, the group was itching to get back and jam out together.
“I’m feeling extremely rejuvenated — musically and professionally,” said Allan Borukhovich, bassist and vocals. “We are extremely pumped.”
New keyboard and vocalist, Brad Louckes will join Borukhovich, Salvaggio and drummer Stu Crair, adding freshness to the signature sound.
“We are four people just playing,” Borukhovich said. “That’s all it comes down to. There is no other aspect to it. When you just play you create something really cool.”
————— NEXTnc: If you could play anywhere, where would you play? What is your dream venue?
Salvaggio: On a huge level, Red Rocks. If it ever happens it would be years and years away. On a smaller level, Bonnaroo.
Borukhovich: Red Rocks would definitely be a victory for me. Then there would be a Carnegie Hall gig. I would love to play at The Gorge, and The House of Blues in Chicago is also on my list.
NEXTnc: What are some of the benefits and drawbacks to being involved in side projects?
Salvaggio: The benefit is we can play different music. I play with The Foot Clan which is more funk oriented. Stu and Brad play in The Hugh Jazz Combo and Allan plays in Prism, which is more dance music. We can get rid of all these other things, then play balls to the walls rock ’n’ roll with this group. The hardest part is finding time to play and practice with multiple bands.
Borukhovich: My whole life I said I would never do the multiple band thing. It’s tough. There is very little personal time left. The only time I get to hang out is between midnight and 3 a.m. I’ve been practicing more than I ever have.
NEXTnc: Where is your favorite hangout?
Salvaggio: I used to love to hang out at Conor O’Neill’s, but it’s closed now. I’d say the coolest place to hang out now is Hodi’s Half Note.
Borukhovich: The Aggie and Hodi’s Half Note. The Aggie is my home away from home. I love the staff at The Aggie. We all get along and they take care of us. Hodi’s Half Note is really cool too.
NEXTnc: What is your drink of choice?
Salvaggio: Whiskey on the rocks with a dash of Coke.
Borukhovich: I actually rarely ever drink. When I do, it’s usually vodka cranberry, a white Russian or a really good brown ale.
NEXTnc: What is your most memorable stage moment?
Salvaggio: Playing at the Mish with a full moon out, water behind us and the stars in the sky.
Borukhovich: I turned 21 on stage in Indiana, which was really cool. I wasn’t even supposed to be in there, but once it was midnight, they allowed me to tell everyone it was my birthday.

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
