The enigmatic differences between men and women have made us throw up our hands in bewilderment and defeat for centuries. The timeless nature of the battle to understand the opposite sex is why “Defending The Caveman” is the longest running solo play in Broadway history.

On Saturday, Colorado State University graduate Cody Lyman stars in “Defending The Caveman” at the Union Colony Civic Center in Greeley — a show that may be as effective as a marriage counselor — only cheaper and more entertaining.

“Defending The Caveman” is the comedic creation of Rob Becker, who spent three years researching and writing the play.

Becker says that, despite the male perspective, the two-hour, one-man play in one act leaves “no stone unturned in the quest to understand the separating differences that lie between man and woman.”

During the play, the actor takes the audience back in time to consult with prehistoric man for insight into how and why men and women have become so different.

TO GO
“Defending The Caveman” is at 7:30 p.m. April 8 at the Union Colony Civic Center, 701 10th Ave., Greeley. Tickets are $14-$45, available at www.ucstars.com, or 356-5000.

SHOW TRIVIA
“Defending the Caveman” was performed 700 times in New York City before starting a nationwide tour. The smash success of the show’s first run prompted then-mayor Rudolph Giuliani to proclaim a “Caveman Day” in the city and rename West 44th Street “Caveman Way.” The play has been seen by millions of people all over the world, and it has had successful runs in Mexico, Israel, Germany, South Africa and Australia.

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
