 KINGSTON, Jamaica — Bob Marley’s got his own money again.
The Bank of Jamaica is releasing commemorative coins in gold and silver with the late reggae superstar’s dreadlocked likeness. The 1,000 coins, produced by the British Royal Mint, are being sold for $100 each.
MONEY:
The Bank of Jamaica issued coins to mark what would have been Marley’s 60th birthday. That would have been last year, but a bank spokeswoman says the bank is offering them now, although she didn’t say why. The bank offered commemorative coins to mark Marley’s 50th birthday as well.
WHO IS HE:
Born in Jamaica’s rural St. Ann parish, Marley rose from the gritty shantytowns of Kingston to global stardom in the 1970s with hits such as “No Woman No Cry” and “I Shot the Sheriff.” His lyrics promoting “one love” and social revolution made him an icon in developing countries worldwide. He died of cancer in Miami at age 36 in 1981.

I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
