The residents who relish in the area business can get a whole scoopful at the Union Colony Dinner Theatre, where owners aim to satisfy the physical and mental palate of their patrons.

"We put the whole thing on ourselves, and we usually give six to eight weeks from the start of the rehearsal to opening night," said Cathy Salaymeh, who owns the theater alongside her husband, Raja. "We're the only one in town -- we filled a niche that Greeley was looking for."

In the three years since opening, the theater, located in the center of downtown at 802 9th St., has performed 16 plays. "Steel Magnolias" is the theater's 17th production.

"We get input from the people who have done shows here and what they think would be good," Salaymeh said of their choosing of plays. "Then we look at cast size and appeal."

Despite their shaky start, the small theater has started to attract larger and larger audiences.

"In the beginning, we had a smaller audience because people didn't know about us," Salaymeh said. "But it has increased, and I'd like to think it's because we're putting on quality shows, and they like to come back."

The quality shows are a mixture of different types of performances, from the larger named shows such as "The Sound of Music," to ones that have yet to hit the big time. The result of which is a mixture of ages coming to see the works.

"We try to do smaller plays to broaden people's horizons to things they haven't seen before," Salaymeh said.

And beyond the walls of the theater, Salaymeh believes there has been an influence on the town.

"There has been a positive impact on Greeley and the downtown area because we've brought people down that wouldn't normally be there," she said.

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
