Since she was a little girl, Kate Hurley has written music.
So it was only natural for her to combine her faith with her music, which she does on her upcoming CD, “Beloved.”
Hurley was touring in Oregon recently when she talked with NEXTnc, and she’ll play at Everyday Joe’s in Fort Collins on April 14, which is also sponsered by NEXTnc.
With her music, Hurley wants “to paint an accurate picture of a passionate God and that belief has helped me to reach so many people.”
She has released several worship CDs and she is working on her first solo record. That first solo album is especially meaningful because that record will benefit an orphanage in Brazil.
Hurley also has her own nonprofit organization called Mercy Projects that unites artists to assist various charities. Her music has taken her around the world, including shows in Russia, Thailand, India and Brazil.
She has played everywhere from bars to nightclubs, churches, jail and, finally, coffee shops.
——— TO GO TO HER SHOW 7 p.m., Saturday April 14 Everyday Joe's Coffee Shop, 144 S. Mason in Fort Collins Tickets are $5 ———
NEXTnc: What can the audience expect from your show? Hurley: I am myself on stage. I perform honest music about struggle and joy, all the emotions we feel. I keep things simple, organic and down to Earth. I play the guitar and piano and who I am on stage is who I am in real life.
NEXTnc: Where is your favorite venue? Hurley: Of all the places I've played, my favorite would be when I traveled with this band around Thailand. We played at the largest university in the world at the time. There were so many people around, it was unbelievable.
NEXTnc: How has your religious faith inspired you musically? Hurley: What I've learned is faith changed my life. Knowing God loves me, has given me a purpose. I make it a part to bring my faith into my music. Spirituality is important.
NEXTnc: Why did you pick these particular charities to sponsor, including Aid Child in Uganda? Hurley: My goal is to pick not-so well known charities and make them more visible to people so they can help. I like to make a difference.
NEXTnc: You live in Boulder? What about it there do you like the most? Hurley: I love the people and the independence in Boulder. People can express themselves and we are in a unique community filled with artists. We are all friends.

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | Hola Amigos! I'm Sandra. I like to believe that people are 70 percent good and 30 percent dumb. I'm stickin to that story. Reading this blog might make you want to be good, but probably just dumb. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
