Celebrating women is not a new concept, but for the female threesome that incorporates the Femme Fatale 2 fashion, art and music show, it is the main concept.
“Empowering women to empower themselves is a beautiful thing,” Mariah Baretta said. “Sometimes women are overlooked, and we are recognizing and celebrating them.”
Baretta, 29, is part of a Fort Collins trio — along with Dre Williams, 35, and Jen Beshore, 33 — that created the Femme Fatale 2 show which will be on Friday, April 13. The show is a saucy compilation of art, music, fashion and, for some kinky fun, four burlesque acts by local burlesque ladies. The show is by women, featuring women and for women.
The struggles women face are not lost on the Femme Fatale creators. In part, those struggles were the genesis for the show.
“I come from a family of women — I have two sisters and three nieces — all of whom are creative,” said Baretta. “I’ve also known many women that have been taken advantage of.”
The first Femme Fatale show came originally from Baretta’s desire to create an event to showcase the creativity and importance women have in the world.
“I wanted to create a strong network of support and an all-female event helped start this network,”Baretta said. “Many women I’ve worked with in the past feel the need to compete against one another, something I don’t want to encourage. So in finding a positive mixture of female artists, business owners, musicians, and performers, the Femme Fatale show was born.”
Baretta, an artist, contacted Williams, owner of Solid Art Collective, and asked her to be a part of the event last fall. Williams agreed and the show was held in Fort Collins at The Vault.
The event was such a success that Baretta and Williams wanted to do another, only bigger this time. In came Beshore, Williams’ best friend and another artist. “What makes it dynamic is the fact that all of us have this great vision to make it a success,” Beshore said.
Williams agreed.
“The three of us are working together for the first time on an event this size, and the dynamics of that alone have been astonishing,” Williams said. “The fact that only three women can handle the organization, promotion and execution of this event in a professional manner has been very rewarding.”
The theme of the Femme Fatale 2 show is “A Woman is as Bad as She Dares” and it’s about celebrating the feminine without making it a goddess gathering.
“We want to show off the inner diva: the fashion sense, the art sense,” she said. “We’re edgy and more outside of the box.”
There will be two fashion shows with local designers, one of which features Baretta’s own clothing line, Alve Beretta Fashion. The other four designers will feature recycled clothing And there will be the Burlesque Girls.
And the gents don’t have to sit at home.
“The different people we’ve pulled together, the variety, the b-girls (burlesque), placing different types of creativity together with the two fashion shows, it’s going to be a beautiful evening,” Beshore said.
All the men who attended the first show were incredibly responsive, Williams said. She added, with a laugh, that they liked being in a place where there were so many women.
“A little kink rarely discourages,” she said.

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
