As the Colorado sun begins to melt the snow away, the busy work of a bee is under way.

This is Laura Tyler’s favorite time of year.

“Colorado is an excellent honey producing area, the sunshine is wonderful for the bees,” Tyler said.

Tyler’s passion for bee keeping came as a whim about seven years ago, when out of the blue she went to a class on bee keeping. Now it’s her passion and through her new documentary “Sister Bee,” Tyler hopes to share this passion with others.

“Keeping bees is a life-changing experience,” Tyler said. “I wanted to show what it feels like to be a bee keeper. They give you a sense of connectedness to the world, and I wanted to share that.”

Tyler is a native of the Northeast who now makes her home in Boulder.

The documentary follows six women as they care for their bee colonies, produce honey and show how these little creatures make an impact on their lives.  “You witness a city in the span of your hand,” Tyler said. “Everyone has their own job, and it shifts your perspective on life because you begin to think of things in a more universal way.”

Tyler hopes audiences see the interconnectedness of the world, and the beauty that surrounds their everyday lives. She also hopes they become interested in bee keeping, although this isn’t her ultimate goal, and is excited to hear people’s excitement about bee keeping after they see the movie.

“I want audiences to feel good about being human,” Tyler said. “It’s about beauty and joy. There really isn’t a whole lot of negative in the film.”

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
