You don’t have to goad Vince Herman to get his opinion.
“I think Cindy Sheehan is a hero and George and Dick should be impeached for treason,” Herman wrote via e-mail (because his phone wasn’t working) while touring several states away.
Herman is never shy about where he stands on the issues of the day. He also openly supports Barack Obama and efforts to stop the war.
He’ll share his music and opinions at the second Storyteller Series event at Hodi’s Half Note. “My favorite song will probably be the one I make up. It’s my favorite because it brings you into the here and now,” Herman said about performing live. After living in Morgantown, West Virginia, and Pittsburgh before that, the Nederland resident appreciates the natural beauty and peace of the quaint mountain town. It’s a place for him to escape after a long tour, a thing he’s grown accustomed to after 15 years with Leftover Salmon and now with Great American Taxi.
Herman said, “We play hippy country, or redneck hippy tunes. It’s really stuff from that deep, deep well of Americana.” He’ll take that Great American Taxi style on the road to California, Arizona, Missouri and more, after his storytelling solo in Fort Collins.
Herman is known for his political voice as well as his “slam grass” singing voice. He said the audience at Hodi’s should expect a funny, original show. “They will laugh, ask some questions politically, feel the right now through improvised songs and be connected to the folk tradition.”
A staple at Mishawaka and festivals around the country, Herman is a road dog with a solid fan base. Although his MySpace page mentions him working on a solo album full of cameos, Herman said, “The solo record is a long way off, but I won’t have much in the way of famous people on it. The new Great American Taxi record is what I am focusing on now. It rocks.”
Since he will be performing alone at Hodi’s, expect it to be a bit more impromptu than when he is with a group.
“Both situations have their advantages. Improv is looser by yourself, but it’s really fun to hit people with the full band sound and get the boogie going,” Herman said.

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
