Stan Kerns loved the Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy production at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland on Tuesday night.
He'd go again if it came back, but not at the expense of getting all wet. The one thing that Kerns, 64, of Greeley never wants to experience again is standing in the rain with his family for 30 minutes.
Kerns, his wife, Ardis, 49, and their 11-year-old daughter, Mattie, stood in the rain along with other people wondering why they couldn't get into the building.
"The complete total population of that arena exits into the hallway at half-time or intermission, whatever the event is," Kerns said. "The fact that the population of the arena couldn't be housed in the hallway is a bunch of crap because they do it all the time."
Nothing quite went right that night. Cirque Dreams turned into a nightmare for a lot of the paying customers, who shelled out tickets that cost $28, $38 and $48, not including service fees.
The show for all ages, billed as a colorful dream in an enchanted forest that included a cast of aerialists, contortionists, strongmen and balancers, was supposed to start at 7:30 p.m. The performers and everyone else associated with the show got stuck in Castle Rock. When the cast arrived in Loveland to set up the stage and run through a dress rehearsal, the 90-minute show didn't start until around 9:15 p.m.
"Our staff did try to contact ticket holders for the event by making phone calls, and we did have a flyer that our parking attendants gave out as well to let them know that the show was delayed," said Elizabeth Garcia, marketing director for the Events Center.
Parents with young children who wanted refunds weren't able to get their money back. Garcia said some people were allowed inside the main concourse, but others got rained on. They didn't open the arena because of rehearsals and stage set up, Garcia said.
"We let 1,000 people in. When that area was full, we opened up the First National Bank Exhibition Hall next door," Garcia said. "We apologize for any inconvenience that it may have caused. The show was very positively received once it did go on, and our staff did the best they could in the circumstances to try to get people to the show and provide family entertainment." | Only registered users can write comments. | | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
