Whatever, Ryan Seacrest. Despite your little teases, it was no big "shock" on Wednesday night's "American Idol" that nobody would get the boot during "charity week."
I called that in the first seconds of the two-hour "Idol Gives Back" extravaganza, when I saw the final six dressed in matching white suits.
Dreams don't get shattered when you're wearing all white. It just doesn't happen. So, while "Idol" did a great thing by allowing for millions of dollars to be donated to U.S. and African charities, it broke no entertainment ground (excluding the Celine Dion-Elvis Presley thing, which made me believe for a few seconds that the world was coming to an end).
I donated to the cause, so I believe I have the right to criticize "Idol's" warm-fuzzy shows: They were sort of a drag. Why? Because they lacked the delicious touch of meanness usually present at this level of the competition. We should get more than a taste of that next week, as two people will be sent home in order to keep the schedule in tact (Phil and Chris, you might wanna keep that ditty bag packed).
It did become painfully obvious during Tuesday's performance show that the six finalists are severely lacking something. I'll call it the "BREELIANT!" factor. Thus far, none has turned in a performance that stopped the world and transcended the "Idol" stage. Kelly did it. Fantasia, Elliott, Bo ... hell .... even Clay did it.
Jordin Sparks came close this week with her rendition of "You'll Never Walk Alone," but that last note didn't quite get her there.
And most disappointing was LaKisha Jones, the former front-runner whose song choices consistently smother her. Who in their right mind would take on "I Believe" after Fantasia blew the roof off and let the heavens in with it?
The same girl who sang "And I am Telling You ..." right before Jennifer Hudson won her Oscar? Yeah. Don't understand it.
So, while the hype and feel-good anthems made me believe that poverty can be conquered, the outlook for "American Idol" 6 just ain't quite as hopeful. "If I could ... cha-ee-ange the world ..." ___

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
