Folk-pop innovator Nickel Creek is the rare kind of group that can play a rock festival with Rage Against the Machine one weekend and a country festival with Kenny Chesney the next.

That's not hyperbole.

The trio played Coachella last weekend and is headed back to the Indio desert this weekend for the country-heavy Stagecoach Festival as part of its "Farewell (For Now) Tour." We talked to guitarist Sean Watkins about that and some other stuff.

Question: How was Coachella?
Answer: Coachella was really great. Our show was good, and it was fun and great to play for that crowd, kind of a new audience for us. As a festival, it was really great. I had a lot of fun walking around.

Q: What does it say about you guys that you can play a festival like Coachella with Rage Against the Machine one weekend and a country festival the next weekend?
A: We've always had a wide audience, people that listen to a lot of different things. It's kind of a testament to that. Also, Coachella is pretty open. There' a lot of different kinds of things going on there. It feels good to be able to move between the two.

Q: What's all this "Farewell (For Now)" business?
A: We all have a lot of things that we want to do. It just seems like now is the right time to put it on the shelf and end the chapter. It just seems like the right thing to do at this point. We've toured so much for so long. We all have aspirations to do other things.
I, for one, would like to spend some time making music and not being on the road so much.

Q: But it's purposely open-ended and indefinite? So in five years ...
A: Yeah, yeah, that's definitely the idea.

Q: What's the mood like within the band, knowing that there are x-number of shows before it's over?
A: We're really happy. It's encouraging to know there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Not that it's a dark tunnel, it's just never-ending. It's hard to see new things after months and months and months of the same show. But we're appreciative of the time we have together. We're not taking anything for granted.

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
