With all the exciting lineups, developing a summer concert plan of attack can cause a bigger headache than head-banging to death metal for eight hours straight.
The key: Figure out who the must-see act is and get your tickets early. NEXTnc staffers asked some of the biggest music fanatics in northern Colorado who gets them jazzed and who they’re willing to dish out big bucks to see.

What concerts in northern Colorado will you check out this summer?
Jonathan Tiersten Acoustic guitar and lead vocals for Jonathan Tiersten and Ten Tiers “I’ll give any shameless plug to Hodi’s. I’m interested in seeing The Motet. It’s amazing. It’s disgusting — they’re so good.”
Chadd Smith Vocals for Adam’s Ruin “I’m excited to see The Piggies at Hodi’s with Autofate. I’m friends with Jason (Larson of the Piggies). Those are the only two bands I get excited to see locally anymore.”
Allan Borukhovich Bassist for Prism and vocals and bassist for Orooni “Andreas Kapsalis in June at Road 34. It’s actually going to be an amazing show!”
Sean Cohen Guitarist for Prism “It’s nice to see a $5 or $10 show at the Aggie once and a while. I’m pretty stoked that Fishbone is coming here, but I won’t be able to see them. The Aggie gets good gigs.”
Greta Cornett Trumpet player for 12 Cents for Marvin, Caleb Riley Funk Orchestra, Ramonas and Fort Jazz Big Band. She also books shows for Road 34 and Hodi’s Underground “I’m always super excited for New West Fest. It’s a great way for all Colorado bands to check each other out. A lot of times we play at the same time and don’t get to see each other. ... I’m also excited for Hot Hot Heat at the Aggie. I try to get to as many as three to four shows a week. If anyone is playing in town, I try to make it. I try to get out and support them so they can support us, too. Lots of bands in Fort Collins are releasing new CDs, so that will be fun. If it’s a local band, $5-$15 is pretty reasonable. For national bands, I will go $50-75, if it is one of my favorites or if I don’t think I’m going to see them again.”
— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — Who are you planning to make a trip to Denver this summer to see?
Tiersten “Elvis Costello and the Impostors at the Filmore! Getting tickets isn’t the hard part, it’s finding a baby sitter. ... Last time I saw Peter Gabriel for $120.50 for cheap seats. Usually $100 is my cap. I also want to see CKY. They are good friends of mine.”
Smith “Linkin Park is supposed to come, but I don’t think they have announced dates yet. Korn is coming again. I’m really excited to see them since they just got a new drummer.”
Borukhovich “Marcus Miller in Denver June 23 at Cervantes is one I’m really wanting to see. He doesn’t come to America often. Spare Parts will be here in July and Down Low in June.”
Cohen “Bjork. I’ve got seventh row center seats at Red Rocks. I’ll typically pay $50; that’s no problem for me. I’ve got tickets to a lot, Daft Punk, Tortoise, oh man, there’s so much. I listen to a lot of obscure stuff. I’d say I’ll spend upward to a grand with festivals and everything. I’ve already dropped $400, but it’s hard to say how much I’ll spend because I buy them as soon as they go on sale.”
Cornett “I’m looking forward to the Warped Tour. I’m really excited. The Brotherhood of Dae Han from Fort Collins and Single File from Denver will be playing. I really hope Pearl Jam comes back. I went to both their shows last year. They were a lot of fun. They are my fave.” ———

| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
