Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer, who sentenced Paris Hilton to 45 days behind bars, is denying a report on the celebrity Web site TMZ.com that he got a standing ovation from parishioners when he arrived for Mass at St. Brendan's Church in Los Angeles over the weekend.
The TMZ report was the basis for an item in this column earlier this week. "The church story is completely false," Sauer told the Los Angeles Times in an interview published Tuesday.
TMZ, which initially reported that the incident took place on Sunday, has amended its story to say it actually occurred at a Saturday Mass. The Web site says it got the info from "several God-fearing witnesses."
TMZ also has dropped the standing-ovation element, reporting now that "the congregation erupted in applause. Several parishioners buttonholed the judge to express their approval."
Deacon Eric Stoltz, a member of the church staff, said in an e-mail: "The TMZ report is wrong. Nothing of the kind occurred at St. Brendan Church at any time, as Judge Sauer himself has told the Los Angeles Times. We regret that TMZ has to date refused to retract their story, especially since the judge and the priest who celebrated the Saturday Vigil Mass have both explained that no such thing happened." | Only registered users can write comments. | | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
