If you're a dedicated NBC viewer, you're going to be seeing a bunch more of Lester Holt.
Holt, co-anchor of the weekend editions of "Today," was named anchor Wednesday of the Saturday and Sunday versions of the network's "Nightly News" as well.
"This is a lot of responsibility," Holt told the New York Daily News. "I'm the main on-air editorial voice of the network for the weekend.
"Obviously, I have a co-anchor on `Weekend Today,' but as soon as that is off the air, I'm the face of the network for better or worse for the rest of the day."
Given the number of major news stories that have broken on weekends — the tornado that destroyed Greensburg, Kan., Saddam Hussein being plucked from a hole and the loss of Space Shuttle Columbia, for example — it's likely viewers will see a lot of Holt.
He'll replace John Seigenthaler, who left the network a month ago when his contract was not renewed.
Before he took on the "Today" job, Holt anchored a weekday show on MSNBC.
Under the new setup, Holt will arrive for the morning show, get involved with the early planning of "Nightly News," perhaps get a break in the middle of the day to spend time with his family, and then head back to the studio for the newscasts. When he's not in the studio, he'll be checking his BlackBerry or logging onto MSNBC.com.
"I'm not going to complain about a long day," said Holt. "I love doing this."
He'll also continue to fill in for Brian Williams on the weekday "Nightly News" and on other NBC News telecasts.
"The beauty of this job is there's never a shortage of opportunities," Holt said. "I didn't really see this coming," he said, "but I was thrilled when they came to me with this. ... I've thoroughly enjoyed doing the `Today' show, but I'm excited about stretching." | Only registered users can write comments. Please login or register. |

| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
