The restaurant appears to be open with customers seated at the bar enjoying their lunch, but contractors are gluing stones strategically around two mirrors behind the bar. Scents of fresh paint and wood floor sealant fill the air, and people bustle to tie up loose ends.

The Rafferty's remodel is finally finished, and owners are ready for their grand reopening scheduled tonight. Owners Wayne Crabtree, Rich Miner and Steve White have waited for this night since they closed the doors for renovations just a mere two weeks ago. The restaurant opened to the public Monday, but the remainder of the week was used to complete the finishing touches.

"My goal is for it to become somewhere you could take a date out to," said Crabtree. "I want it to be more of a destination than a has-been."

On Friday, patrons can expect various drink specials and a chance to meet promotion girls from companies such as Three Olives or Imperial Vodka. The local band, Wall of Dogs, will play, as well.

Rafferty's will open every Friday and Saturday for live band performances and Wednesdays starting this week to participate in Northern Colorado Idol.

The three men bought Rafferty's in April 2006, but Crabtree said that May was really the only month that worked for the renovations. With their tight summer schedule filled with promotions out at the Greeley Independence Stampede and a celebrity golf tournament with the Hooters restaurant, the time was now. Management also changed the menu in early February.

"It still has a lot of the old-time favorites people love," said employee Dan Rosendale.

Improvements include newly installed hardwood floors, a total of six plasma TVs, with three of them being located behind the bar, cement countertops, cherry wood cabinets and new booths and tables.

Even with working an average of 120 hours a week, Crabtree still has one more change in mind.

"As soon as the dust settles on this, I am going to redo the menu again," he said.

Crabtree said he knew the restaurant's reputation was not that good when they bought the restaurant. They hope the changes will help people to see the restaurant as more than just a hangout.

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
