Jen Eichhorn runs into hairy situations every day. The 30-year-old is the owner and aesthetician at Screamin Peach waxing studio in Fort Collins.
“I got into it because I got pregnant and needed a career,” she said. “After working in the industry so long, I decided I liked waxing the best. It’s fast and I get to talk to people all day. I’m not sitting in a dark quiet room giving facials.”
Eichhorn worked at other salons for seven years before opening Screamin Peach 15 months ago.
“I wanted to move up,” she said. “I always knew I would own my own business. I just didn’t know what. It’s been awesome. It’s been very successful. I’ve been very fortunate.”
Brazilian, full bikini and brow waxes are the most popular services, but they also do spray tans, makeup, lash tints, lash perms, lash extensions and brow tints.
Whenever someone comes in to get the hair down there removed for the first time, Eichhorn tells them the truth upfront.
“It does hurt, but it gets easier,” Eichhorn said. “There are a lot of benefits to waxing. The hair thins out, you don’t get bumpy, it’s not like that razor burn, it’s not prickly and it’s a lot less maintenance than shaving.”
Eichhorn, who didn’t go to college, said opening her own business is empowering. “I did it as a single mom,” she said. “I want to motivate people and show them they can do it too, regardless of their situation. Anyone can do anything.”
Screamin Peach has a clean, urban feel with a come-as-you-are attitude. The name itself is a little edgier than your typical salon.
“I want everyone to feel comfortable,” Eichhorn said. “At other places, everyone is really pretty. I want this to be a place where everyone feels comfortable, no matter what. I wanted it to not be so froofy.”

IN HER WORDS
What is it about this job that makes it challenging? This job is challenging because I need to find a balance with all of it— owner, waxer, single mom and running my house— and doing the best I can with all of it, especially with my daughter.
Makes you get out of bed in the morning? Challenge gets me out of bed.
Things that impress you? Real people and real things impress me.
Things that don’t. Not much really. You are who you are.
How do young/new employees get ahead? By their work ethic.
Did you ever think in a million years you’d work here? I always knew I would own my own business.
If you weren’t doing this, what would you do? Be a paramedic.
What’s the stupidest thing you’ve ever done while at work? ?
Smartest? Open my own business.
What do you do during your breaks? What breaks? Eat and do office work.
Name one thing in your life that really prepared you for your job. My work ethic and different jobs.
What’s the biggest payoff in your job? All my clients. Getting to talk to a lot of different people all day, I learn a lot.
Are you the boss? Do you think you should be? Yes. Yes, but I couldn’t or wouldn’t be here without my amazing staff.
What do you do when you’re not at work? I’m at home.
Pets? Two dogs, one cat, one mouse, one fish.
Family? I am a single mom of a wonderfully amazing daughter who is 8.
Favorite TV shows. We don’t have cable.
Movies. We sometimes watch movies.
Books. Books that educate me and make me think.
What Web sites do you have bookmarked? The animal rescue.
Where do you play? I like to be at home a lot. I’m trying to fix up my house, yard and garden.
Go out to eat? Rio, Poppy’s, Crown Pub. When I go out, it’s usually for something like a birthday, so wherever. I’m not too picky.
Favorite spot? Rio or The Vault. It depends on who I’m with and my mood. | Only registered users can write comments. Please login or register. |

| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!

| | My name is Michelle Turley and I'm 28 years old. I live in Severance with my hubbie, Brandon. We have 2 dogs and a cat. We enjoy camping, four-wheeling, and just being in the mountains. I like to cook, clean (go figure), flea market, and play poker. I have so much to say about poker... | | |
