A little older, a little wiser and maybe a little balder, The Freddy Jones Band still knows how to play great music.
The traditional roots-rock band of the ’90s reunited in 2005 after a five-year hiatus with a greater appreciation of music.
“We are a much better band now, believe it or not,” said drummer Simon Horrocks. “We are more mature and appreciate it for what it is. It’s really special to us and we do care about it, but we don’t have to do it everyday.”
With members now spread across the country, shows are more of a reunion than a job.
Horrocks and Wayne Healy, vocalist and guitar player, live in Atlanta. Marty Lloyd, vocalist and acoustic guitarist, lives in Los Angeles. Bassists Jim Bonaccorsi and Ron Bonaccorsi, guitar and vocals, are in Chicago. In addition to living in different states, the band members also have their own lives.
“Everyone does have families and careers, it’s not like it once was when we ate, breathed and slept it,” Horrocks said.
Through regular conference calls and frequent E-mails, the band sorts out any scheduling conflicts and books shows.
“We usually do 10 shows a year,” Horrocks said. “The greatest thing is we can do it on our own terms now.”
But the more things change, the more things stay the same. Horrocks said everyone’s personalities are still exactly the same.
“That cracks me up,” he said.
As for their sound, it still rocks. The Freddy Jones Band blends blues, rock and folk. The group has plans to go back in the studio to record a greatest hits record with a few new tracks.
The band has shared the stage with Widespread Panic, Phish, Sheryl Crow, Dave Mathews and Matchbox Twenty and will be the headlining band on Sunday at the Taste of Fort Collins. They have old friends in several other bands, including Sister Hazel. Horrocks said the band enjoys the camaraderie among itself and other bands.
“We appreciate hanging out again,” Horrocks said. “We get to pretend to be rock stars again. We get to hang out backstage and on stage again... Plus, it’s fun to play music.”

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
