Loveland metal band Adam’s Ruin has a split personality. Off stage, the guys are relaxed and easy-going. On stage, well, that’s a different story.
“On stage, we pour all our hearts and emotions into the music, which comes out very aggressive,” vocalist Chadd Smith said.
They’re loud, fierce and passionate. Their songs hit at core issues people are afraid to talk about.
“The world is not a pretty place and music is one of the best ways to show how people feel,” Smith said.
Growing up, Smith often turned to music as an outlet. He found meaning in songs that would help him during rough times.
Now, that is what he hopes to give his fans.
“With metal, you are aloud to be as aggressive, blunt or raw as you can,” Smith said.
The band, which formed a year and a half ago, has gained attention all over Colorado and is frequently played on the radio station KBPI 106.7.
The group is on the verge of signing with a record label with the hope to make a career out of music. Still, the focus is on the fans.
“Fans from all over the nation are writing us to say how our music has really touched them and saved them from bad times,” Smith said. “That means more than any record label.”

————— NEXTnc's Conversation with Adam's Ruin —————
NEXTnc: What would you say is the band’s biggest strength and biggest weakness? SMITH: Friendship. We all have such a big bond to each other. I don’t think we will ever go away. We have each others’ backs for everything. We all have this huge case of ADD. When it comes time to write songs or have a serious meeting, no one can pay attention.
NEXTnc: What is your favorite thing about metal? SMITH: The raw emotion. I’m sure it’s different for all kinds of music. I can distinguish more emotion and power with metal than in other music. Don’t get me wrong, I listen to everything from Mozart to hip-hop. NEXTnc: What’s the craziest thing that has ever happened at one of your shows? SMITH: Just signing autographs is beyond bizarre to me. Girls want me to sign body parts and I get to meet artists I grew up idolizing — not just meet them, but share the stage with them. It’s crazy.
NEXTnc: Does the band regularly go to any particular Fort Collins restaurants? If so, which ones? SMITH: Trystin and I frequently hit up Old Chicago. I’m desperately trying to finish up the World Beer Tour.
NEXTnc: Tell us about the band’s summer plans. SMITH: Our CD coming out is the biggest thing. We plan to reinvent our image and show when that comes out. It’s rumored we may be playing with Korn at Coors Amphitheatre. We will be trying to get bigger shows. We’ll see how it goes. Just living the dream. | Only registered users can write comments. | | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
