THE COUNTDOWN TO $1 BILLION: "Pirates of the Caribbean" pillaged the box office again in week two, to the tune of $44 million and a second consecutive first-place finish. That brings its total to $217 million, $624 million if you count worldwide figures. And, rest assured, Disney counts all those yen, rubles, pesos and pounds, too.
THE UPSIDE: "Knocked Up" also proved profitable at No. 2 this week. Strong word of mouth from a slew of advance screenings and solid reviews pushed its total to $30.6 million, eclipsing its budget in week one. Fans of Judd Apatow should rejoice, because between this and "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," he'll be able to make whatever he wants.
BOMB SQUAD: Now that we've had two weeks to look at it, "Bug" is looking pretty Squad-worthy. After a decent opening, the bottom fell out, leading to a 60 percent drop in revenue from week one and a $774 per-theater average. Consider this one squashed.
SWAMI SEZ: Swami should stick to what he knows: comedy. Prediction: "Knocked Up" opens at No. 2 with $32 million. Result: The right spot, and within a mil or so of the total! Prediction: "Mr. Brooks" disappoints with $6 million at No. 5. Result: Actually, a No. 4 finish and, more importantly, a $10 mil haul isn't half bad for a movie that cost just $20 million to make.
A VAST 'OCEAN': "Ocean's Eleven" opened with $38 million. "Ocean's Twelve" topped that with $39 million. Do I hear $40 mil for "Ocean's Thirteen"? Prediction: And then some. "Ocean's Thirteen" tops the weekend with $42 million.
PENGUIN PARADE: So where does that leave this year's obligatory penguin flick, "Surf's Up"? Reviews have been fairly positive, and the kiddos have all cast off those "Shrek" dolls by now like so many Buzz Lightyears. Prediction: "Surf's Up" finishes a strong second at $28 million. ___

| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
