People of all ages can have a great time at the Car Show which features live music, a beer garden, and of course, our community’s hottest custom rides and classic trucks, bikes and cars.

“It’s a car show of mostly older cars, in Old Town, and since I own the oldest restaurant in Fort Collins, it was just a natural fit,” Silver Grill Café owner John Arnolfo said. The café serves as the title sponsor and kicks off the Car Show Friday night with food, drink and live music at the historic Silver Grill Café.

A staple in Old Town since 1912, the Silver Grill Café closed for a time between 1918 and 1933 when, Arnolfo said, “It was a variety of different stores — one was called Mother’s Café and that was in about the 1920s.”

Arnolfo took ownership in 1979, closing only temporarily for renovations to make the café bigger and better.

As the café grew, it the town grew around it. In 1986, the restoration of Old Town Square was exciting for the business. “That was the catalyst that really started bringing it to the next level. Up until that point, Old Town was a very transient area,” Arnolfo said, “very typical of a dilapidated old town, but when the project started on Linden Street – the walking mall – that’s really what catapulted Old Town into what it is today.”

Arnolfo served several years on the Board of Directors for the Downtown Business Association, including three as president, where he helped make decisions about events that local residents still love today.

“I was on the board at the time when everything was starting to change,” he said. “We were the board that started Brewfest and New West Fest, and probably the biggest thing we did before those days was the Christmas lights.”

The tradition of the Old Town Car Show is in its sixth year, and Arnolfo’s family tradition continues as well. His two sons, Zach and Sam, have grown up working in the restaurant business and Arnolfo said, “I think that has really helped formed them into who they are today.” They help keep the restaurant running while he works on getting something else running.

“I’ve got a 1930 Model A Ford pickup truck that was my father’s that he bought brand-new in San Francisco. And it stayed in the family all those years, and I dug it out of my aunt and uncle’s barn just about five days ago, so that’s my current project.”

Maybe next year we’ll see it in the car show too.

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
