Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, or Moliere as his drama buddies in the 17th century referred to him, was the comedy mastermind behind “Scapin,” this year’s CSU Summer Theatre production. In this musical version of his script, originally set in Naples, Italy, CSU students become possessive fathers, love-struck young men and one scheming servant after whom the play is named.
“This adaptation has little to do with the plot of the original,” director Walt Jones said. “And the music is very contemporary.”
Senior theater major Dan Tschirhart plays Geronte, father to Leandre. Leandre has secretly fallen in love with a women other than the one his father wants him to marry. “It’s a lot of fun, it gives us a lot of freedom,” he said.
Jones said the cast has been putting in a lot of time and effort on the physical “bits,” but that his cast is ready and rearing to go.
“(The) audience can expect just about everything. Think Monty Python, SNL, and Cirque de Soleil,” he said. “It’s a blast and (the audience) will be part of the act.”
To the tune of Broadway, gospel and hip-hop styles of music, the cast of characters interacts with the audience and dabbles in improvisation, making the show fun for the whole family.
The fun starts on June 20 with the curtain closing on July 28, so there’s plenty of time to catch this comedy.

| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
