BREW IT YOURSELF Each month home brewers come together to share brews and news
By Erin Frustaci
Beer, rather than words, flows from the members of the Liquid Poets. The Fort Collins home-brewers club has about 60 thirsty members who meet once a month at select breweries to share their home brews. “Brewing is sort of like an art,” said Remi Bonnart, president of Liquid Poets. “It does require artistic abilities besides just brewing. Beer can be like poetry where you express what you want through it.”
The 28-year-old has been brewing for about seven years now and enjoys making creations he can’t buy in stores.
About four weeks ago, he created a concoction with Earl Grey Tea and dark grains. “The skies the limit with spices and herbs,” he said.
Taylor Caron, 35, of Fort Collins is one of the driving forces behind Liquid Poets, which has been around for about a year and a half. Caron was active in a home-brewing club in Oregon, but he had a hard time finding one in Fort Collins.
“I started a Web site and word of mouth really spread,” Caron said. “There’s a lot of home-brewing going on, so it’s natural a club like this would take off.”
Colin Westcott said it’s because of all the breweries in the area, which were founded by home-brewers. It’s true — people love their beer. In fact, Colorado State University offers a Brewing Science and Technology class through the Food Science and Human Nutrition Department.
“I know a lot of people move here for the beer scene,” Westcott said.
Westcott and his wife Shannon opened Hops & Berries, a home-brew and wine making supply store in Old Town, about a year and a half ago. The day they opened the store, Caron came in and told them about his idea of a home-brewers club. It turned out there was one, but it was rather small. That group joined forces with Caron and the Liquid Poets was born.
“People need to know home-brewing is not rocket science,” Westcott said. “It’s a pretty simple process. When it comes down to it, anyone can do it and enjoy it.”

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | Hola Amigos! I'm Sandra. I like to believe that people are 70 percent good and 30 percent dumb. I'm stickin to that story. Reading this blog might make you want to be good, but probably just dumb. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
