An oil cowboy sits motionless on his horse, suspended in a meditative moment gazing across the prairie toward dusk-colored clouds. "Hurry Up and Wait!" are the words that color his image.
This oil painting by Nathan Solano and many other instances captured from Western imagination deck the walls and tables at the Stampede Western Invitational Art Exhibit and Sale at the Exhibition Building.
"Hurry Up and Wait!" was chosen by the artists featured in the exhibition as their favorite piece of the show.
The Stampede Committee's purchase this year was entitled "Longhorns," a watercolor painting by M. Haynes Scott that depicts two cattle in blue and brown hues that give an overall earthy aura.
The exhibition features more than just paintings. A variety of media, including bronze and alabaster sculpture, scratchboard drawings, photography, wood carvings, and ink and graphite drawings also are on display.
The diversity of subject matter covered in the genre of Western art is astounding. The traditional cowboy, farm, ranch and Western landscape subjects are dominant, but are supplemented by pastel etchings of mountain fauna, bronze giraffes, and Native American images preserved in alabaster and gourds.
The proceeds from the sale of the artwork goes in part to the Stampede Foundation Scholarship Fund, which gives annual scholarships to seniors at Weld and Larimer county high schools.

The Stampede Western Invitational Art Exhibit is shown daily during the Stampede until Wednesday. It is housed in the Exhibition Building and is open on weekdays from 4-9 p.m. and on weekends from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. | Only registered users can write comments.

I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
