Face it, we’re all looking for the perfect workout.

Whether you’re a tri-athlete or a tri-couch potato, if there were something that incorporated some of the best aspects of Colorado, camaraderie in the form of a sweating partner (no, not like that — get your mind out of the gutter), a teammate and the extra time to grab your morning latte post-work out, wouldn’t you jump at the chance to try it?

Pretend for a moment that the 90-degree heat hasn’t banished all thought of physical exertion from your consciousness and go with a “yes.”

Thirty men and women have found said revelation in the form of a little thing called rowing. The members of Fort Collins Rowing Association get up before morning traffic, take the scenic drive up to Horsetooth Reservoir and glide along the glass-like water for the best workout around.

“Once you get that feeling, it’s a rush and you want to keep doing it,” Tonya Dunn, membership chairwoman for the association, said. “It’s the best full body workout and it’s low impact.”

Aside from allowing you to feel the burn better than Billy Blanks could, Dunn and longtime friend and fellow rower Aimee Jensen agree that the bonds they’ve formed on the water is what keeps them coming back. “It’s the thrill of working in a group,” Jensen said. “And we’re all working as one.”

Dunn, who took up rowing after having “fantasized about it for years,” turned her friend on to rowing shortly after Jensen was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer in 2005.  “I started two weeks after my lumpectomy and went all through radiation. It really helped with my mental health,” Jensen said. “The beauty of it, the physical exertion of it and hearing the water, too, that’s another thing I love.”

Being on the water, everyone pulling in unison, creates a sense of equality. And for Jensen, that was important. “They treated me like a normal person.”

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
