CCR is coming to Loveland, kind of.
Creedence Clearwater Revisited, started in 1995 by Creedence Clearwater Revival drummer Doug Clifford and bassist Stu Cook, will hit the Thunder Mountain Amphitheatre on July 19, playing a set of hits by the original CCR.
Loveland will be one of more than 60 scheduled stops on the international tour for the band, which is impressive considering that when Cook and Clifford formed the band, they thought they would just play private events, not in front of packed venues around the world.
In fact, according to Clifford, the band actually has scaled back its number of live shows, from more than 100 each year to the current level. He said they made the decision because they did not want to be away from their families for the majority of the year.
The new CCR’s first album, Recollection, was released in 1998 and has since reached platinum status, selling more than 1 million copies.
Of course, none of this success would have been possible if not for the work of the original CCR, who played together from 1959-1972. They started playing in the San Francisco Bay area and Clifford said that when they first met, their record collections were all the same and they made a great connection.
Clifford said that their manager at the time told them they needed a gimmick, but the band just wanted to make some “good music,” though it was not the popular style in their area at that time.
“They said you’ll never make it playing that style, so we said ‘Well, we’ll never make it then.’”
When speaking about the success of the new CCR, Clifford emphasized that “the toughest test is the test of time,” and said that he was “humbled” by the fact that the new CCR was attracting three different generations of fans to their shows.
“I think that’s the coolest achievement, to bring in the new generation,” said Clifford. “Especially those who were being born when you were making it.
“It’s great energy we get from the youngsters. They know all the words, and I don’t even know all the words.”

| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
