Back in January, David Milch sounded optimistic about the prospects for a pair of movies that would wrap up the saga of "Deadwood" on HBO.
Now? Well, we'll have to wait and see, according to two of the cable channel's top executives.
"We're just finishing 'John From Cincinnati,' so David is, needless to say ... exhausted," Michael Lombardo, president of HBO's programming group, said Thursday at the network's press tour session. "So we haven't had a conversation with him about scheduling the production of those movies. ...
"It's always been our intention to do them. It is complicated. We don't have holds on the actors anymore, David is busy doing 'John.' We'll see what happens with 'John,' but we will revisit this with David at the end of the summer. ... It's certainly on our books as something we're still interested in."
That said, though, HBO co-president Richard Plepler puts the odds of the movies happening at "50/50."
"I think the question is going to be whether or not all the actors can be pulled together, whether or not David is fully committed and motivated to getting the script written," Plepler says. "I spoke to him the other day. He's obviously exhausted in concluding this project with 'John.' And I think he wants a little time to think about it. So we're going to have to wait."
Other bits and pieces from HBO's day at the press tour:
"The Wire" has just about finished production on its fifth season, which will focus on the media as well as its cops and corner boys. The season, the show's last, will consist of 10 episodes and should premiere in the first few months of 2008.
The stars and creators of "Little Britain," David Walliams and Matt Lucas, will be bringing their, uh, unique brand of comedy to the States with a new sketch show set in America. Some of their more distinctive characters will be coming with them, and they'll be creating new ones as well.
"American Idol" creator Simon Fuller is one of the executive producers. Production will begin in the fall for a 2008 premiere.
"John Adams," the miniseries based on David McCullough's Pulitzer Prize-winning biography of the second president, is slated for next spring. In addition to previously stars Paul Giamatti, Laura Linney and Stephen Dillane, the cast will include Tom Wilkinson, Sarah Polley, Danny Huston, Justin Theroux, Rufus Sewell, David Morse and Guy Henry. | Only registered users can write comments.

I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
