Phil Grizzle of Greeley answers to the man upstairs for a living. The 28-year-old is the pastor of young adults at Christ Community Church in Greeley.
Grizzle loves what he does and his passion is easily recognized.
“Our big focus right now is to build meaningful relationships where we can journey with each other and discover life and faith together,” he said.
Grizzle joined with Christ Community Church about a year and a half ago. Before that, he and his wife were running a college-age community house in Fort Collins. He said that opened doors for him to come to Greeley and was a natural progression.
“It just seemed like the right fit for my wife and I as we were looking to partner with a church with similar values to our own,” Grizzle said.
He spends his time ministering to several groups within the church. Christ Community Church has a group for 18-20 somethings, a group for engaged and young married couples, and a group for post-graduate and young professionals. The post-graduate and young professionals group just started and meets twice a month. These groups engage in discussions as well as partake in a variety of activities, with the purpose of bringing people together.
What is it about this job that makes it challenging? The most challenging and rewarding part of my job is that it is with people. As humans we are unpredictable and sometimes hard to deal with. There is nothing about this job that is boring or stagnate. Everyday is a new adventure with God and with people.
Things that impress you? Things that don’t. Someone who is willing to give up their desires to see someone else’s dream come true. Selflessness is an amazing thing and is so contradictory to our natural desires. Conversely, what doesn’t impress me are people who accomplish something or are ‘successful’ by doing whatever it takes, usually at the expense of others.
Did you ever think in a million years you’d work here? Not specifically this specific church, but I have believed I would be in this type of position.
If you weren’t doing this, what would you do? Teaching and or coaching in a high school somewhere.
What’s the stupidest thing you’ve ever done while at work? I have no idea. I know I do stupid things all the time. There are so many of them, one doesn’t really standout over the other.
What’s the most unusual thing you’ve ever done to make money? I made eyeglasses. Very interesting field.
What’s the one thing you wish you could do on the job that you can’t right now? Nothing. That may sound like a cheesy answer, but it is true. I love what I am doing, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
What’s the biggest payoff in your job? Seeing people find life in Jesus Christ in a way they previously didn’t think possible.
What do you do when you’re not at work? Spend quality time with my wife and daughter. I also enjoy refurbishing antique furniture.
What Web sites do you have bookmarked? Currently, I’m trying to figure out how to home roast coffee, so my bookmarked Web sites are ones dealing with that.
Where do you play? I love to play sports so I’ll spend time at the Greeley Recreation Center or playing golf at one of the many municipal courses in northern Colorado.
Favorite TV shows? ‘24’
Movies? “‘Good Will Hunting,” “Braveheart,” “Crash.”
Books? “‘Divine Conspiracy” by Dallas Willard.
Go out to eat? P.F. Changs is my favorite restaurant right now.
Favorite spot? The patio of Margies Java Joint with my journal, a good book and a fresh cup of coffee.
What’s one thing about your job you would do, even if you weren’t paid to do it? Most of it. It’s such an honor to be paid to do what I love. I guess the last thing to go would be spending quality time with people helping to discern what God is up to in their lives.
Name one thing in your life that really prepared you for your job. Marrying my wife. She has demonstrated a type of love to me and others, coupled with her amazing faith in Christ that has shaped me more than anyone else.
What do you do during your breaks? Breaks?
Are you the boss? Do you think you should be? No, I am not the boss and I don’t think I should be. God has brought together a very special team of people leading this church and I’m extremely blessed to be part of it.

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | Hola Amigos! I'm Sandra. I like to believe that people are 70 percent good and 30 percent dumb. I'm stickin to that story. Reading this blog might make you want to be good, but probably just dumb. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
