Drew Carey ... come on down!
You're the new host of "The Price is Right"!
Carey ended weeks of speculation by revealing on "The Late Show With David Letterman" Monday that he has been tapped to fill the slot left open when the legendary Bob Barker stepped down in May.
"I love the idea of giving away prizes for a living, that's a pretty good gig to have," Carey told the New York Daily News last week, before the deal was struck. "And it's a real honor to be asked to do 'The Price is Right.'"
Carey ended up with a job that Rosie O'Donnell publicly said she coveted — and that Barker said she should get. But after meeting with show producers, O'Donnell said they wanted the show to remain in Los Angeles and she didn't want to move her family from New York, effectively bailing out of the process.
Carey, 49, is best known for starring in his own ABC sitcom and also hosting "Whose Line Is It Anyway?"
This week he starts taping a new prime-time game show for CBS called "The Power of 10." Carey told Letterman "Price" producers reached out to him after seeing the pilot.
It appears that the decision to do "Price" was not about money, but rather time. Carey said last week he didn't need to work anymore and was very particular about what jobs he took.
"When they first approached me about doing the show, I wanted to meet with people and see what the schedule is like," Carey said. "It's not every day of the week, or every day of the year. ... It would be like having two part-time jobs." Barker hosted the popular daytime game show for 35 years and left after his 6,586th episode. | Only registered users can write comments. | | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
