Juruseh Hill doesn’t want to give an oral dissertation on why his art is, well, art. He’d rather the pieces just be appreciated and taken in without overblown explanations.
“I really don’t like talking about my art,” Hill said without pretension. “I’d rather let it talk for itself.”
Hill, 31, will present some of his pieces at FoCo LoCo perfecto, from Studio Gallery Wright, which opens on Wednesday, Aug. 1, at Hodi’s Half Note in Fort Collins.
The FoCo LoCo perfecto show features 10 area artists and on opening night will have three local bands playing the night away. Co-organizer and owner of Studio Gallery Wright, Erin Wright, said the show is supposed to be a celebration of Fort Collins and its culture.
“We (Wright and her husband and co-organizer, Jonny) want to get the art into the real world, into the everyday life in our community,” Wright said. “Hodi’s is a great venue because there is a high amount of exposure.”
Wright said the opening evening is a mixture of all forms of art.
“We’re trying to bring together artists and musicians and people who are interested in both. It’s a synergistic atmosphere,” she said.
The “synergistic atmosphere” has helped Hill. Hill’s working relationship with the Wrights has helped his creativity from becoming stagnant.
“I’ve been doing artwork for a long time and when people are creative, it forces good things to come,” Hill said. “Everyone’s got a little creative outlet, but if they aren’t tapping into it, they should.”
The outlets for his creativity start as simply as a pen and ink drawing and then gradually build into bigger and more complex pieces.
Hill takes his pen and ink pieces and transforms the two-dimensional into a three dimensional piece of metal art.
“I’ve done gates and railings — all different kinds of styles, but with the gates I keep things more traditional,” Hill said. “But with the wall pieces, some are provocative, some are kosher. It’s hard to lump them into one genre.”
The inspiration for all of Hill’s work isn’t purely from within. Hill compares his belief in inspiration to Alex Grey paintings.
“It (the Grey art) has a Hindu feel — divine inspiration, being a utensil for the pen,” Hill said. “Half the time I am the utensil and the inspiration is floating in ether.”

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
